About ADOPT Training
Hugh Osburn is the proprietor of ADOPT Training and also provides valuation assistance and support to other valuation firms. This support includes the valuation of intellectual property and other intangible assets such as patents, technology, brands and trademarks, non-compete covenants, etc., and liabilities like embedded floating-strike look-back options in convertible loan facilities and employee share options with complex performance conditions.
Hugh Osburn is a Chartered Financial Analyst, Accredited Senior Appraiser (Business Valuation) of the American Society of Appraisers, and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants with a broad grounding in the material sciences, engineering and natural sciences. He has lectured widely on valuation topics both in the United Kingdom and abroad and has written many articles for publication.
After graduating from Cambridge University with an MA in Natural Sciences Hugh went on to complete an MSc in Mining Systems before entering the steel industry as a technical assistant (ironworks) and later gaining an MBA from Manchester Business School.
More recently he was Vice President, International Financial Appraisal within an international valuation consultancy and, prior to that, he held financial management positions with major multi-national companies and worked in a number of countries throughout Europe.
Positions held included Finance Director of the UK engineering subsidiary of a US multi-national, Manager of Management Accounting Systems with a defence manufacturer, Operational Auditor in the oil industry and Works Accountant, Cold Rolled Products and Financial Analyst in the steel industry.
Other Interests
Hugh speaks German and has studied the following languages and cultures as a hobby: German, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Italian, Japanese, Turkish, Greek and Ndebele.
He keeps fit by visiting the gym occasionally and enjoys swimming. In his youth he was a keen water-polo and judo player, and is still a member of The Hawks Club.
At one stage while between jobs he gained his private pilots license (single-engine light aircraft).
